Wine making kits from Hambleton Bard are made using Italian high quality grape concentrates from the well known famous grape varieties of the world. Our supplies of grapes come from the northern regions where the cooler climate tends to produce a very high quality of winemaking grapes, well suited for homebrew kits. All the international types are represented; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling as well as Italian specialities like Nebbiolo (used for the famous Barolo wines) and Sangiovese. The Sauvignon Blanc grape was introduced in Italy around the end of the 19th century in an effort to restore the viticulture after the phylloxera calamity. Soon, it achieved the "right of citizenship" - in particular in the Oriental part of Italy (Veneto and Friuli) where it reached very high quality results in poor and rocky grounds or in well exposed dry hilly ground. |

In recent time its cultivation has been extended to other areas like Alto Adige and parts of Emilia Romagna. The wine is elegant and delicate with flavours of yellow pepper, bananas and melon. Aging for a 2 years is common and it is not unusual with excellent results even after up to ten years or more - an unachievable goal for most other whites. |
