Wine making kits - Trebbiano grapes Wine making kits we make here at Hambleton Bard are made in general using Italian highquality grape concentrates. Our supplies of winemaking grapes come from the northern Italian regions where we believe that the cooler climate produces higher quality grapes for our winekits. Alll the international types can be found in this area - types like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling but also native Italian specialities like Nebbiolo (used for the famous Barolo wines) and Sangiovese. |

Trebbiano is actually a group of vines, some of them very different from each other. The most known types are: Trebbiano Toscano, utilised in the composition of the Chianti wine. Trebbiano di Romagna, also called Trebbiano della Fiamma (fire) for its characteristic red shades of its bunches during maturation. Trebbiano Veronese and Trebbiano Velletri are other well known types. |

There are many hypothesis regarding its origin - some say that it is the descendant of the "Trebulanum" and the "Alopecis" which were praised highly by Plinio. In ancient time it was called "fox cheque" for the size of its bunches. More precise citations are dated back to 1452 when it was commanded for the refreshment of the 2000 soldiers of the Emperor Ferdinando III during his visit in Ferrara. The Trebbiani are now diffused in almost all the Italian regions where they are part of the composition of many DOC wines. A few examples: Trebbiano di Abruzzo and Trebbiano di Romagna, recognized with the DOC denomination in 1972 and 1973 respectively. |
