Turbo Yeast - Fining the wash

Turboyeast

Once the yeast has done its job, it is no longer an asset. If you distill the mash with many yeast cells left (i.e. a cloudy mash), it will result in many unwanted flavours in the final alcohol. Being cooked alive is a messy thing.

Always leave your wash to clear. If you are in a hurry and don't want to wait until your brew is 100% clear, here's a quick and simple way to make a massive improvement anyway:

Always rack off immediately after fermentation and discard the sediment. This will cost you nothing in time and remove 70-80% of the yeast. There will be a very clear and obvious improvement in the distilled spirit quality.

Use a superfast fining agent like Alcotec 24 TurboKlar which will clear a wash in 12-24 hours. You don't have to wait until your wash is bright, it will still be a major improvement if you wait 12 hours (99% of the yeast will be gone and there will be a light haze left). This is the ultimate treatment. You can use cheaper fining agents (bentonite, gelatine based ones etc) but they will not give the same super bright result (well, eventually they will - but it will take a very long time).
